Cataclysm is going to be earth shattering. Literally. The face of Azeroth is changing. How much? Time will tell, but we know of a few things like the flooding of Desolace and the splitting of the Barrens. With this massive overhaul, what ripples can we expect to see on new or leveling alts? Well, I’d imagine a lot. Blizzard isn’t afraid to pull classic quests lines (e.g., Ony attunement, Atiesh, Corrupted Ashbringer) so assume the worst. If there is anything you’ve been putting off, I’d say now is the time to do it. For me, I have to get off my ass and hunt those damn whelplings. With Azshara becoming a starting zone, I’m assuming the Azure Whelps will no longer be dropping there. I could be wrong, but I don’t want to take my chances…it tends to bite me in the butt when I do.
So, let’s say Cataclysm is here. What do us poor, alt-ridden saps do about all the new low level stuff? All my alts are in Outlands and Northrend. All my character slots are full. Do I delete the Priest (again) to make room for a Goblin? No, not going to happen. Do I fire up another account to play with? Great scheme on Blizzard’s parts. Mo’ money for them. Well, what I’m really, really, really hoping for is more slots. Yes, I already have one of every class, so I can’t use that as a complaining point. But really, we know there will be more. I can’t see them stopping at just one hero class. I say open the floodgates! Give us 5 more slots! …or at least 1 more.

Have you considered rolling alts on a new server? You’ve got 10 character slots on each server, maybe it would be fun to start in a new place with new people!

I’m afraid my guildies would kill me if I went somewhere else. But yes, that’s kinda the direction I may have to go. At least for a toon or two. This isn’t an invitation to stalk you on another server is it?

You can come play on my server(s) for sure! Sometimes I like rolling alts on new servers though just to get away from everyone I know and be alone, you know?

They announced at Blizzcon that we aren’t getting more character slots per server, or across servers either. 10 per realm, 50 total, done. I’d give up hope on that one for the time being. They did say they are considering letting you change the order that they’re listed in the Character Select screen…not that that does much for you, but at least you can put your favorites up at the top or whatever you want as far as that goes.
So, either you delete existing toons or pick a new server. Personally, I say pick up a new server for them. Surely if you’re guild’s that strong they’ll all be willing to do the same. Just let them know outright that the idea is just to check out the new races or new race/class combos and that you aren’t leaving the current server you just don’t have room for the new toons.
When you said you had all of your alts over level 60 I thought you were pretty hardcore. Then I realized you meant all alts on a single server and that thought changed to “pfft, alt-a-wannabe”.
I’ve had 70 alts across 13 servers, deleting and rerolling as I go. I’ve been doing a massive purge here lately and I’m now down to 7 servers and only about 30 characters (I almost got down to 20, then rerolled several more. /fail). But I’ve got 3 servers picked out in particular that I’m going to play on when Cat gets here. My main server for toons I seriously want to level and have a lot of fun with, one for alliance toons, and another for Horde. I’ll be spread out across all three of these servers, and the other servers I’m on right now will probably be left behind for a while as I focus on leveling at least one of all 12 races.

70 alts, more than one account huh? Yeah, I have other alts on three or four other servers, but in the past I’ve just deleted abandoned toons. Probably not the best idea… I like your Horde, Alliance, and Main server ideas. I need to feed a new home for Alliance. I have a 60 NE Hunter that has seen sooooo little action since well before BC. With the Worgen coming, I’ll need a new home. I *have* to play one.

Holy smokes, Errun! You have fans!
Fortunately for me, I have an ‘empty’ slot on the home server (an alliance lowbie toon I use to check cross-faction AH prices…), but I hear what you’re saying about needing more character slots. Too bad Blizz recognizes a revenue source when they see it…guess you’ll have to get another account to have a second set of 10 on the same server.
